Working with the National Stroke Association, EMS Data Systems developed software specifically to enhance NSA’s NIH Stroke Scale Exam Training and Testing program. Thousands of clinicians across the country have attended seminars, viewed training tapes, and taken the exam for NIH Stroke Scale Certification.

After viewing a training tape at an exam site, clinicians are given the NIHSS Certification Exam. A single, custom-designed scannable form is used to collect both test answers and individual personal data for issuance of test results. These forms are then transmitted to NSA for scanning and processing the test results utilizing EMS Data Systems’ NIHSS Scan & Score software application. The software scores the exam, produces a letter containing the clinician’s score and amount of outliers along with mailing information, prints the clinician’s name and date on the certificate, adds the data to a database of clinician history, and eventually generates renewal letters. NIHSS Scan & Score has enabled NSA to score exams and issue results within 48 hours of receipt, and same day when requested.
